Fun Friday! New Year — New You!

Use of Anti-Gravity treadmill

“New Year—New You” is something that we all hear being thrown around this time of year. It sounds great in theory, but most of us don’t know where to start.

The first step to a new you is eating healthier, notice I did not say diet. Eating healthier includes a balanced diet of lean proteins, veggies, fruits and lots of water. You can get all the nutrients you need to live a healthy life from what the earth gives us. You will want to look for foods high in nutrients and antioxidants that will give you the feeling of being full and give you the energy to get you through the day.

These foods include a lot of things that you should not feel guilty about eating.

  • Almonds
  • Apples
  • Avocadoes
  • Bananas
  • Black Beans
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Eggs
  • Lean Proteins, including chicken and turkey
  • Popcorn
  • Brown Rice

Now that sounds like the start of a pretty good shopping list to get you started toward your goal of a new you. Don’t think of it as dieting, think of it as “I’m eating nutritious to achieve my goal of a new year-new me!”

The second step to the new you, is getting active. This includes exercise as easy as walking, grabbing some soup cans and do some bicep curls or try doing sit to stand from your favorite chair. Remember to start slow and go at a pace that you can personally handle. I always say to patients, any exercise is better than no exercise. A low activity lifestyle can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and a lot of other health deficiencies.
