Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy Relies on Proven Techniques

We offer speech therapy to assist patients with establishing greater control over speaking, literacy, and language skills. We help teach you the ability to understand words spoken to you (receptive language) and elicit words/strategies to express yourself (expressive language).

Speech Therapy can be offered in your home if you are physically unable to travel to our facility.

Whether they’re meeting you at home or in our center, our therapists draw on a number of proven techniques to create the right plan for each patient.

Some of the techniques we use include:

V.O.I.C.E. Therapy establishing home programs to utilize during everyday life.as well as in therapy, to ensure proper vocal hygiene to reduce vocal fold abuse which may cause rough, breathy, or raspy voice tones of voice.
Alternative Augmentative Communication focuses on increasing overall communication through alternative ways for those who are unable to use voice. Strategies that may be included are: American Sign Language, Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) and communication boards/high tech devices.
Articulation focuses on increasing speech intelligibility by targeting production of specific sounds. Oral motor exercises are used to increase the strength and range of motion of articulators.
Cognitive Rehabilitation enhances function and independence while aiding in a patient’s recovery and improving their quality of life. Rehabilitation may be used in the following areas: memory, executive functioning, word retrieval, and concrete naming.
Feeding and Swallowing treatment begins with evaluating patients and their ability to safely drink and swallow substances of different textures and consistencies. During treatment, we teach specific swallowing exercises to improve muscle movement and function to ensure safe swallows and prevent aspiration (something entering airway).
Language treatment focuses on increasing knowledge and usage of semantics/vocabulary and promoting proper syntax/grammar.
LSVT LOUD this is an innovative way of treating patients with Parkinson’s Disease. We treat the underlying physical pathologies in order to improve vocal volume and speech intelligibility. We increase the number of facial expressions the patient can use and build and regain confidence.
VitalStim involves placing external stimulation on specific locations of the throat and face. This stimulates impaired muscles through exercises to increase musculature strength.
Oral Motor exercises taught and used to strengthen oral muscles that are used when speaking and swallowing. We may ask you to blow bubbles or fill your cheeks with air to improve muscle tone and control. Some patients see improvement in speech after such exercises.
